Sheila joined 1st Easthampstead Scout Group on 1st February 1960 as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader and remained in this position until taking over as Cub Scout Leader (Akela) on the 1st July 1963. Sheila remained as Akela until 31st March 2004 when she handed over the leadership to our new Akela. Sheila remained working with the Cub Scout Pack as an Honorary Scouter until her passing on 28th June - a total length of Service to the 1st Easthampstead Cub Scout Pack of over 45 years. Sheila was also Deputy Head Teacher of St Crispin's and took on an ever-increasing workload required by the local authority and social services and served on many committees as well as being involved in many school activities. Despite these many demands on her time she continued to retain a firm grip on the day to day running of the Cub Pack. I have lost a good friend and 1st Easthampstead has lost a most loyal and committed leader. Our thoughts and prayers are with Malcolm at this time of his loss. Richard Shirley |
